The first 4G network was commercially established in Norway and Sweden in 2009. For 4G speed on mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, connection speeds must have a peak of at least 100 megabits per second (12 MBps).
On February 13, 2018, 4G telecom spectrum was auctioned in a low competitive bidding.Only two mobile operators participated: GrameenPhone and Banglalink. Bangladesh's second-largest mobile operator, Robi, and state-owned Teletalk did not participate in the auction, and Bangladesh's first mobile operator, Citycell, did not qualify for the spectrum auction.The winners were GrameenPhone and Banglalink. The winners were awarded spectrum on February 19, 2018.
Banglalink took 10.6 MHz spectrum and GrameenPhone took 5 MHz spectrum for 4G mobile services.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission awarded 4G licences to GrameenPhone, Banglalink, Robi, and Teletalk on February 19, 2018, and finally Bangladesh's cellular network entered a new era, which is called the 4G LTE network.
